Thomas Graves - Emeritus

Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Haynes Benefits - more than 40 years of it.  Tom advises and assists plan sponsors regarding the establishment, operation, and termination of employee benefit and executive compensation plans.  He deals with all types of employee benefit plans, including:

  • Pension plans
  • Profit sharing plans
  • 401(k) plans
  • Stock bonus plans
  • Employee stock ownership plans
  • Supplemental executive retirement and nonqualified deferred compensation plans
  • Group health
  • Life insurance
  • Long-term disability
  • Other group welfare benefit plans

Well versed in the needs of clients of varying sizes and industries, Tom not only assists with day-to-day administration of employee benefit plans, he also represents employers undergoing complex mergers and acquisitions.  This involves:

  • Drafting plan documents
  • Employee communication
  • I.R.C. Section 401(a) determination applications and the resolution of disputes on behalf of employers with the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation

A frequent speaker, Tom is also a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel.  A graduate of William Jewell College, Tom received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is licensed to practice in Missouri.  The list of industry organizations that Tom is involved with is an extensive one, but to name a few, he is affiliated with the American Benefits Council and formerly served as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) instructor.
