Robert West - Director

An expert in employee benefits and employment and labor law, Bob is putting his 20 plus years of experience to work for the clients of Haynes Benefits. Bob’s focus is on the design and interpretation of 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), pension, profit sharing, deferred compensation, ESOPs, health, cafeteria and other ERISA employee benefit plans. Bob counsels plan sponsors and trustees regarding fiduciary responsibilities, plan compliance issues and other ERISA and IRS requirements.  He has assisted numerous clients with DOL and IRS investigations and with voluntary compliance programs offered by both agencies. 

 

Bob also assists clients with HR compliance matters, EEO, wage and hour, FMLA, wrongful termination and harassment issues.  His extensive background also encompasses labor negotiations and multi-employer benefit plan matters, including withdrawal liability and other pension funding issues. 

 

Prior to becoming a principal with Haynes Benefits, Bob was a partner in a national law firm (ranked in the top 150 law firms by the National Law Journal).  Bob graduated from Phillips University and received his law degree from Washburn University magna cum laude and is the former chairperson for the employee benefit committee for the KCMBA. An author of numerous articles, Bob frequently conducts training seminars and workshops on employee benefits and HR compliance topics.
